Preparing Your Quilt

  • Add at least 10 inches to the length and 8 inches to the width of the quilt back. If you are planning on using the back fabric for your binding then add a couple inches extra to your backing.  We will not trim the edges after completing the quilt, and we do not do binding.

  • If your backing has a seam, let us know which direction it should go, vertical or horizontal.

  • Mark the top of your quilt and the top of the backing with a safety pin.

  • Quilts should be clean and pressed, preferably with a spray starch. Fold quilt and backing carefully to minimize wrinkles after ironing.

  • Make sure your quilt top is square. Measure across the top, middle and bottom to confirm all are approximately the same dimension.  Waves, fullness and puckers on your top may result in less-than-optimal results.

  • Cut all loose threads and edges to avoid quilting loose ends into the pattern.
